Traffic through the Severomuysky Tunnel on the Baikal–Amur Mainline railroad (BAM) in Russia’s Republic of Buryatia has been fully restored after a freight train’s tanker car caught fire in the tunnel on November 29. RIA Novosti published a video of a train entering the Severomuysky Tunnel.
Ukrainian media, citing sources in the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU), reported that the explosion was a Ukrainian intelligence operation. CNN, citing its own SBU sources, also reported that the agency was behind the blast.
After the fire, trains were rerouted to a detour where a second explosion occurred. The second explosion reportedly did not hinder rail traffic.
The Russian Investigative Committee, according to media reports, is investigating the incident as an act of terrorism.
