Russian authorities ask Supreme Court to ban ‘international LGBT movement’

The Russian Justice Ministry has filed a lawsuit with the country’s Supreme Court demanding that it designate the “international LGBT movement” as an “extremist organization” and ban it in Russia.

“Various signs and manifestations of extremist orientation have been identified in accordance with Article 1 of the Federal Law ‘On Countering Extremist Activity’ [...] including the incitement of social and religious discord,” reads a statement from the agency.

The court will consider the suit on November 30, according to the ministry.
