St. Petersburg artist Sasha Skochilenko sentenced to seven years in prison

The Vasileostrovsky District Court of St. Petersburg has found artist Sasha Skochilenko guilty of spreading “fakes” about the Russian army, and has sentenced her to seven years of imprisonment in a general regime prison colony, according to a Mediazona correspondent who was in the courtroom.

The prosecution asked the court to sentence Skochilenko to eight years in a general regime colony, while the defense insisted on an acquittal.

Skochilenko was arrested in April 2022 for placing anti-war leaflets in a grocery store on top of price tags.

The artist has spent more than a year and a half in a pre-trial detention center, and has been diagnosed with several diseases. Skochilenko and her lawyers have pointed out that her imprisonment in a colony poses a risk to her life because she cannot receive qualified help.
