“Vesti Voronezh” journalists, which is part of the state media holding VGTRK, requested comment from law enforcement on the event, but at the time of publishing they had not received it.

In the past few months, there have been repeated reports of raids on foreigners who have obtained Russian citizenship, during which they are served summonses to the military recruitment office.

The head of Russia’s Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin, has said that migrants should be stripped of their Russian citizenship if they refuse to participate in the war in Ukraine. A few months after the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russia passed a law to simplify the process of receiving Russian citizenship for those who’ve served in the armed forces.
