Russia's Prosecutor General has received a request to investigate a recent statement made on television by State Duma deputy Andrey Gurulyov in which the lawmaker referred to people who don’t support Putin as “rot” and called for them to be “destroyed.”

The request was filed by St. Petersburg Legislative Assembly deputy Boris Vishnevsky, a member of the liberal Yabloko party. According to the Prosecutor General’s response, which the party published, the request has been forwarded to the Moscow Prosecutor’s Office for consideration.

On October 15, during a talk show appearance on the state news channel Russia 1, Andrey Gurulyov said that 80 percent of Russians trust Vladimir Putin and that “the remaining rot should be either isolated or destroyed in some way.”
