The Moscow city government announced Wednesday that the construction of a new manufacturing plant in the city’s Nekrasovka district has been completed. The facility has reportedly been leased to the defense contractor Almaz-Antey and will be used to produce air defense missiles.

According to the announcement, the factory was built in just 8.5 months, which the government calls a record. Almaz-Antey General Director Yana Novikova said missile production is slated to begin by October 2024.

The independent outlet iStories noted that the new plant is located in close proximity (less than 500 meters, or 550 yards) to apartment buildings. In 2022, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin praised the construction of an industrial park in the residential district as a way to bring jobs to the neighborhood’s residents.
