Ukraine’s Internal Affairs Ministry reported that Russian troops shelled Kherson during the evacuation of citizens from flooded areas following the destruction of the Kakhovka dam.

The Internal Affairs Ministry reported that shelling began during evacuation efforts. According to the latest reports, nine people were injured, including one police officer and two rescuers. Earlier reports said that a local resident was injured, but Ukrainian authorities deny this.

The regional administration told the Ukrainian TV channel Suspilne that a local resident was killed and two more were injured. The Kherson region’s prosecutor’s office also reported that four civilians were killed in a nearby village. The office has opened an investigation for “violating the laws and customs of war.”
