Agence France-Presse, an international French news agency, reports that video journalist Armin Soldin was killed today by rocket fire near Chasiv Yar, close to Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine.
Soldin, 32, was AFP’s video coordinator for coverage of Ukraine. He covered the war beginning days after Russia’s February 2022 invasion, and regularly traveled to the front lines in eastern and southern Ukraine.
AFP chairman Fabrice Fries called Soldin’s death “a terrible reminder of the risks and dangers faced by journalists every day covering the conflict in Ukraine.” Reporters without Borders and the Committee for the Protection of Journalists say that at least 11 journalists and other media employees have been killed covering the Russia-Ukraine war.
