Chechen police killed two “militants” in the town of Gudermes on Tuesday evening, Chechnya Governor Ramzan Kadyrov reported on Telegram
According to Kadyrov, the incident was part of a “special operation” carried out on the town’s outskirts. After “blockading” the suspects, he said, the police offered to let them surrender, but the “militants” threw a grenade at the officers in response. “Both [militants] were destroyed by return fire. No officers or civilians were killed,” Kadyrov said.
The governor also published a video that shows police officers carrying the bodies of two men out of a house. One of the corpses in the clip has blood on its face. “The special operation to liquidate the militants on the outskirts of Gudermes lasted just a few minutes,” wrote Kadyrov.
The Telegram channels Mash, Shot, and Ostorozhno, Novosti reported that the men had attacked a local police station.
The Russian Investigative Committee told the state news outlet RIA Novosti that it has identified the men and opened a criminal case against them for infringing on the lives of police officers.
