Former Moscow police department press service head Yury Titov, who left his position after officers fabricated a case against journalist Ivan Golunov in 2019, has been appointed as the Russian Interior Ministry’s new deputy head of media relations.
The ministry told journalists from the news agency Moskva that Titov’s departure from the Moscow police department was unrelated to the Golunov case.
In June 2019, while working as a special correspondent for Meduza, Ivan Golunov was arrested on suspicion of illegal drug possession with the intent to distribute. After a large-scale public campaign in Golunov’s defense, prosecutors dropped the case, and the officers involved in the case against Golunov were themselves hit with criminal charges.
