Russia launched a missile strike on the Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia early Thursday morning, the city’s acting mayor, Anatoly Kurtev, reported.
Local police said that according to preliminary reports, Russian forces used an S-300 missile system to shell the city. One missile hit a five-story apartment building, destroying more than 10 apartments, according to the Ukrainian State Emergency Service.
At least two people were reportedly killed, while at least 11 people have been rescued from the wreckage, and 20 people have been evacuated from the section of the building that’s still standing.
Police have begun an investigation into the attack for violating the “laws and customs of war.”
