U.S. President Joe Biden has arrived in Kyiv for a surprise visit as part of his trip to Europe marking the one-year anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, according to Ukrainian media.
Biden was spotted along with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky outside of St. Michael’s Cathedral.
According to Ukrainska Pravda, the U.S. president came to the church to pay tribute to the Ukrainian soldiers who have died in the war with Russia. Air raid sirens reportedly sounded in the city while he was there.
The visit was later confirmed by both leaders on social media.
The White House previously denied that Biden planned to visit Ukraine during this trip.
