Poland to close major crossing point on Belarusian border due to ‘security’ concerns

Polish Interior Minister Mariusz Kamiński announced Thursday that the Bobrowniki border crossing to Belarus will be closed indefinitely beginning Friday due to national security concerns.

Bobrowniki is the main crossing point in Belarus’s Grodno region and one of the largest on the Poland-Belarus border.

The announcement comes just a day after a Belarusian court sentenced journalist Andrzej Poczobut, a leader of Belarus’s minority Polish community, to eight years in prison for his reporting on Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, further straining the already-sour relations between the two countries.
