Vladimir Putin will visit Volgograd this week to mark the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Stalingrad, Pavel Zarubin, a Kremlin correspondent for a state-owned news network, reported on Sunday. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov later confirmed the news. Neither said which day the visit will take place.
According to local media, Wagner Group founder Evgeny Prigozhin and Chechnya Governor Ramzan Kadyrov will also visit the city this week.
One local outlet reported that oversized and heavy-duty vehicles are banned from traveling through the city from January 30 until February 3, as are trains and vehicles transporting “dangerous cargo” such as industrial explosives.
