Kherson occupation official Ekaterina Gubareva reportedly released from custody

Ekaterina Gubareva, the deputy head of the collaborationist administration in Ukraine’s Kherson region, has been released from custody after her arrest earlier this week, her husband, Pavel Gubarev, reported on Telegram.

Gubarev did not provide further details about his wife’s arrest. According to his Telegram post, an agreement with investigators bars him from revealing the nature of the case.

“Over the last eight years, I’ve seen firsthand how this soulless apparatus of crony-bureaucrats has crushed dozens and hundreds of good people. Once again, God has had mercy on us,” wrote Gubarev, who declared himself the “people’s governor” of the Donetsk region in 2014 (a position that no longer exists).

On November 16, Pavel Gubarev reported that his wife had disappeared in the Russian-occupied part of the Kherson region. Russian media outlets reported that Gubareva had been arrested for an economic crime. The Russian-installed interior ministry in the Kherson region neither confirmed nor denied the reports, while the Russian news service TASS reported that Gubareva had left the region altogether after Russia’s “referendum” on annexation and had not returned.
