A Moscow appellate court has rejected an appeal from jailed Russian opposition politician Alexey Navalny’s lawyers, who sought to have his nine-year prison sentence for embezzlement and contempt of court overturned.

“Appeal dismissed” was the court’s official decision, according to the news agency Interfax.

On March 22, Moscow's Lefortovo court sentenced Navalny to nine years in a maximum security prison on charges of fraud and contempt of court. The Moscow City Court upheld the verdict on March 24.
