Russian authorities are investigating pop superstar Alla Pugacheva for “discrediting” the army, according to Russian state media outlet RIA Novosti. The investigation is in connection to a social media post Pugacheva made on Sunday in which she asked to be added to the Russian Justice Ministry’s “foreign agents” registry and criticized Russia’s war against Ukraine.
According to Ksenia Sobchak’s Telegram channel, the investigation was launched after a woman in the Moscow region saw Pugacheva’s statement online and reported it to the police. The woman asked the authorities to check whether Pugacheva is engaged in foreign-funded “unlawful activity” as well as for “discrediting” the army.
Pugacheva’s concert director said he didn’t know anything about the investigation.
