Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) said on Tuesday that “Ukrainian sabotage groups” blew up six electric transmission towers in the Kurchatovsky District of Russia’s Kursk region. The attacks reportedly caused disruptions to power supplies from the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant.
According to the agency, the incidents occurred on August 4, 9, and 12.
The transmission towers are necessary for the nuclear power plant to “provide energy to industrial facilities, transportation, essential services, [and] social infrastructure” in the Kursk region and beyond, according to the FSB.
The Russian authorities are investigating the incident as a terrorist attack. The FSB is searching for the people responsible and for possible accomplices.
