Moscow police release opposition politician Dmitry Gudkov from detention

On June 3, Moscow police released former State Duma deputy Dmitry Gudkov, after holding him in custody for two days. Citing Gudkov’s wife, Valeriya Gudkova, the Russian state news agency TASS reported that the authorities didn’t impose any preventive measures on the opposition politician. 

On her husband’s Telegram channel, Gudkova wrote that she found out about Dmitry Gudkov’s release from state investigators. According to the independent television channel Dozhd, Moscow police dropped Gudkov off on Moscow’s Pushkin Square and released him from custody. 

This was later confirmed by Valeriya Gudkova. “Dmitry was dropped off at the McDonald’s on Pushkin Square. He’s free,” she said.

Dmitry Gudkov was detained for 48-hours on June 1, as a suspect in a criminal case for allegedly causing property damage through deception or breach of trust. The case was opened over unpaid debts in connection with a commercial lease agreement concluded with the city of Moscow. Gudkov’s detention expired at 7:40 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3.
