Twitter has suspended 1,152 accounts linked to the Russian authorities for carrying out “information operations.”
According to Twitter, the blocked Russian accounts are associated with the media website “Current Policy” (“Aktualnaya Politika”), which is engaged in state-backed political propaganda within Russia.
The network of accounts was suspended for “cross-posting and amplifying content in an inauthentic, coordinated manner for political ends” — a violation of Twitter’s “platform manipulation policy.”
These accounts were also responsible for promoting the ruling party, United Russia, and “attacking political dissidents.”
All total, Twitter suspended 32,242 accounts for involvement in state-linked information operations attributed to China, Russia and Turkey. The majority of these accounts, 23,750, were linked to China. The remaining 7,340 accounts were linked to Turkey.
