On the morning of May 18, Russian officials announced that the country recorded 8,926 new coronavirus infections in the past day (up 3.1 percent from the day before) bringing the nation’s total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 290,678 patients. Moscow’s share of the new cases fell to 36 percent from well over half a few weeks ago.
Another 91 people reportedly died from the disease, raising Russia’s total number of fatalities officially caused by COVID-19 to 2,722. As many as 70,209 people in Russia are known to have recovered fully, including 2,836 in the past day.
Russia says it’s conducted more than 7.1 million coronavirus tests, so far, including 230,900 in the past day.
