Netflix captured 4 percent of Russia’s streaming-service market in 2019, according to the website Telecom Daily, putting the American company on par with Russian services like KinoPoisk and Amediateka. Last year, Russia’s market for legal video streaming generated 27 billion rubles ($360.5 million) in revenue, meaning that Netflix apparently earned more than 1 billion rubles ($13.4 million) in the country. Netlfix’s audience in Russia is reportedly 200,000 people.
Telecom Daily says it received Netflix’s earnings data from foreign analysts with access to the company’s internal records. The website also relied on a survey of Russian users and data from Russian banks related to payments to different streaming services. Based on these methods, Telecom Daily says Russia’s biggest streaming service is Ivi (with 23 percent of the market), followed by Okko (15 percent) and YouTube (11 percent).
