Moscow’s Tverskoy Court has declined to consider a lawsuit submitted by opposition politician Alexey Navalny’s Anti-Corruption Foundation (FBK). The FBK was attempting to sue Russian President Vladimir Putin, whom they accused of organizing an unlawful criminal case against FBK members.
Olga Bondareva, the press secretary for the Tverskoy Court, explained to Interfax that the Russian Constitution prohibits the country’s system of administrative penalties to be used in cases involving the president. She said violating that constitutional principle would undermine Russia’s separation of powers.
