Georgian TV journalist who targeted Putin in obscene on-air rant fired after channel changes hands
Paata Salia, the new CEO of the Georgian television channel Rustavi 2, announced that a number of the station’s journalists will be fired. Among those losing their jobs will be Georgy Gabunia, who spent more than a minute of one of his weekend shows swearing profusely about Russian President Vladimir Putin in early July.
Salia also said that the company will be suing the journalists it is firing for monetary damages. Gabunia was initially placed on leave for two months after insulting Putin live on air, but Rustavi 2’s leadership at the time indicated that he would not be fired.
