Russian President Vladimir Putin has granted both of the Ural Airlines pilots who completed a risky emergency landing yesterday Russia’s highest honorary title, naming them Heroes of Russia. The two pilots, Captain Damir Yusupov and co-pilot Georgy Murzin, landed their Airbus A321 in a cornfield after a collision with a flock of birds unexpectedly incapacitated both of the airplane’s engines. There were no fatalities in the incident.
Interfax reported that the other members of the airplane’s crew have received the Order of Courage.
