Sources within Russia’s intelligence services have informed RBC that six FSB agents have been arrested in Moscow. The agents worked in the Alpha and Pennant special forces and in the K division, which handles financial investigations. RBC also reported an official investigation at the FSB special division responsible for terrorism cases.
The newspaper’s sources said that the agents stand accused of robbing a bank. One source said the amount in question was 140 million rubles ($2.2 million); another said it was 170 million ($2.7 million).
The FSB has issued no official comment on the arrest of its employees.
Correction: an earlier version of this report incorrectly stated that the agents were accused of embezzlement. We apologize for the error.
