Alexey Yershov, the director of Theater To Go, was arrested on Red Square after he stood at the Moscow landmark holding a poster with the slogan “Against the Stanislavsky Method,” journalist and Pussy Riot member Pyotr Verzilov reported.

Verzilov told Mediazona that Yershov’s picket was part of a “theatrical laboratory” run by the Taganka Theater. Pussy Riot member Veronika Nikulshina also stood with an identical slogan in Moscow’s Elk Forest nature preserve.

The action’s participants briefly explained the reasoning behind their posters in a statement to Mediazona: “In its totalitarianism, the method leads to stagnation. By rejecting the method today, you reject the proposition of existing in the status quo tomorrow (and you might even save an elk).”
