Kremlin spokesman says Russia and the U.S. still have nuclear parity, despite all the new weapons Putin just unveiled

How can there be nuclear parity, if Russia possesses missiles “unrivaled” throughout the world? Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov fielded this question on Friday, telling journalists that Russia isn’t the only country with rockets that are invulnerable to missile-defense systems.

“The other side also has weapons against which Russia has no defense,” Peskov explained. “This is the guarantee that these weapons won’t be used.” The president’s spokesman also rejected characterizations that Putin’s speech on March 1 was “militaristic,” saying that most of the address wasn’t about Russia’s new weapons.

He’s right — only 40 percent of the speech was about the military.
