Moscow pins a medal on the passerby who helped save three children from a burning apartment
Moscow emergency workers have awarded a bravery medal to Nikolai Evdokimov for helping to rescue three children from a burning fourth-story apartment. On January 17, Evdokimov was riding the bus past the burning high-rise apartment on Svobodny Prospekt.
Blocked from exiting by the fire, the children escaped to the balcony and shouted for help. Evdokimov asked the bus driver to stop and let him off. He then told the building’s residents to throw down blankets, which he and other passersby used to create a makeshift life net.
The children then jumped down and survived, though it’s unknown if they sustained any injuries during the rescue.
