The Russian Attorney General’s Office has filed a request to seize 13 apartments owned by Dmitry Zakharchenko and his family. Zakharchenko, a former officer in the Interior Ministry’s Main Directorate for Economic Safety and Counteracting Corruption, is charged with corruption, and prosecutors say that two of the 13 apartments are literally being used as cash vaults.

While searching these premises, police uncovered cash in different currencies worth a total of 9 billion rubles ($153.4 million). The Attorney General’s Office also wants to confiscate four cars owned by Zakharchenko and his family (a Mercedes-Benz 250, Mercedes-Benz S500 4МATIC, Porsche Cayenne GTS, and a Porsche Cayenne S Hybrid), as well as some gold bullion found in one of his homes.

Police arrested Zakharchenko in September 2016 on charges of accepting $7 million in bribes. Some of the money he received was reportedly withdrawn from Nota-Bank, which lost its operating license in November 2015. In April 2017, Zakharchenko’s father was also arrested.
