A former teacher from Moscow school № 57 Boris Meerson has been arrested in absentia for sexually abusing a minor, stated a Moscow Court on Monday. Meerson is currently in Israel and is wanted internationally.

Another defendant in the case is former student Maria Nemzer, who has also been arrested in absentia and is also wanted internationally.

According to news source Interfax, a court hearing was held on Meerson’s arrested in Moscow on January 26. The teacher’s defense team then applied to another Moscow municipal court with an appeal, but their application was dismissed on February 13. The hearings were held behind closed doors.

Meerson has been charged for the use of violence against a minor. He may be sentenced to 7 to 15 years in prison.

The case against Meerson and Nemzer was initiated in the autumn of 2016 after the former pupils of the school revealed that they had been the victims of sexual relationships with teachers.

It is suspected that from April to December 2010, Meerson and Nemzer “repeatedly committed sexual assault against a boy under the age of sixteen.”
