The head of the Russian oil giant Rosneft is suing the newspaper that said he's building himself a new mansion

Igor Sechin, the head of the Russian oil giant Rosneft, is suing the independent newspaper Vedomosti for publishing a story claiming that he is building himself a new home in a luxury suburb outside Moscow.

According to the court documents, Sechin filed his lawsuit on August 19. The defendants are listed as Rinat Sagdiyev, the author of the story, and the company Business News Media, which publishes Vedomosti.

Mikhail Leontiev, Rosneft's press secretary, told the news agency RNS that Sechin demands a retraction by Vedomosti, and he's alleging a violation of his privacy. Sechin is not reportedly seeking payment for any damages.

On July 20, 2016, Vedomosti published an investigative report claiming that Sechin owns more than seven acres of land in a new luxury development outside Moscow. The report said that Sechin's new home neighbors similar properties owned by his children.

On August 18, it was reported that Sechin was suing the independent newspaper Novaya Gazeta for publishing a report about a luxury yacht that his wife, Olga Sechina, reportedly uses. Sechin demands that copies of the edition featuring this story be destroyed. Sechin filed this lawsuit after a court rejected an identical claim by his wife.
