On July 31, strong winds ripped off the sheathing of Zenit-Arena stadium’s roof in St. Petersburg. According to a representative from a construction company involved in building the stadium, the sheathing was not installed properly, and complaints about the shoddy work never resulted in improvements.

St. Petersburg Vice Governor Igor Albin reported a slightly different version to Radio Baltica, according saying the wind blew away unsecured parts during scheduled work for the installation of insulation.

On July 26, St. Petersburg terminated its contract with the initial company hired to build the stadium. The city is currently looking for a new contractor, though the stadium is still expected to be completed by the end of the year, officials say.
