The director of Ukraine's National Police, Khatiya Dekanoidze, has announced that experts from the US Federal Bureau of Investigation will participate in the investigation of Pavel Sheremet's murder. Dekanoidze says the case is being led by police investigators and members of Ukraine's National Security Service.

On the morning of July 20, the journalist Pavel Sheremet was killed when a bomb exploded in his car in downtown Kiev. Sheremet became famous in the 1990s as a correspondent for the Minsk bureau of the TV news station ORT (which later became Channel One, Russia's biggest television network today).

Ukrainian law-enforcement officials say they suspect the murder is connected to Sheremet's activities as a journalist. They have also noted a “Russian evidence trail.” State prosecutors are reviewing the possibility that the attack was meant for Alena Pritula, the owner of the news website Ukrainskaya Pravda, where Sheremet worked. The car also belonged to Pritula.
