Human civilization is faced with the global threat of terrorism, said President Vladimir Putin at the military parade in honor of the 71st Victory Day marking Soviet victory in the Great Patriotic War.

"Today civilization is once again faced with cruelty and violence. We must defeat this evil, and Russia is open to joining forces with other states. We are ready to work on the creation of a contemporary non-aligned system for international security," Putin said.

“The lessons of history teach that world peace is not maintained by itself, that we must be vigilant so that no double standards are permissible, short-sighted pandering to those who are nurturing new criminal intentions,” said the President.

The President said that the current generation of defenders of the fatherland do their fathers and grandfathers proud.

“Our soldiers and commanders have proven they are worthy successor to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War. I am sure that today, veterans are proud of their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They will not fail and will always keep their gaze on the great victory, on the valiant achievement of that generation of victors,” said the President.

President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, also attended the Victory Day parade in Moscow.
