Putin signs new law to eject slacker deputies from Russia’s State Duma
Vladimir Putin has signed a bill into law to crack down on slacking parliament deputies. The new law deprives State Duma deputies of their mandates if they are absent for more than 30 days.
The new law amends legislation that establishes on what grounds a deputy can lose their post for systematic failure to perform their duties.
Under the new law, if a deputy fails to perform their duties for 30 or more days, then political parties represented in the Duma and special committees made up of Duma members now have the power to remove the shirking deputy’s mandate.
The original authors of the bill are deputies from the A Just Russia party.
