Russian law enforcement agencies have placed Mikhail Khodorkovsky—once the country’s richest man, who spent a decade in prison until Vladimir Putin pardoned him two years ago—on the federal wanted list.

Earlier this week, investigators summoned Khodorkovsky for questioning. Police consider him to be a suspect in a murder investigation dating back to 1998. The summons for Khodorkovsky, who permanently resides outside of Russia, was presented to his father, who still lives in Russia.

Delivered on December 7, the police summons identifies Khodorkovsky as a suspect in the case of Alexei Pichugin, a former Yukos security officer who is serving a life sentence for the murder of the Mayor of Nefteyugansk in 1998. From 1997 until 2004, Khodorkovsky was the chairman and CEO of the Yukos Oil Company.

Since his release from prison—where he was serving time for a pair of Yukos-related criminal cases—Mikhail Khodorkovsky left Russia and has yet to return.
