Russia's Federal Agency for Tourism has completed its program of repatriating all Russian tourists from Egypt, according to Svetlana Sergeyeva, a top Rostourism official.
Sergeyeva says there are now just 15 Russian tourists left in Egypt, along with a few Russian activities mangers and hotel staff, all of whom are expected to return to Russia before November 28.
“Concerning chartered programs, they have all been completed, as have all tourist-agency programs to Egypt. And Rostourism has completed its program of returning tourists from Egypt,” Sergeyeva said.
On November 6, roughly a week after the crash of an Airbus A321 Russian passenger flight in the Sinai (killing all 224 people on board), Vladimir Putin suspended all Russian flights to Egypt.
On November 17, the head of Russia's Federal Security Service, Alexander Bortnikov, announced that the cause of the passenger flight crash in Egypt on October 31 was a terrorist attack. Since the day of the crash, the terrorist organization ISIL has claimed responsibility for the bombing.
According to Rostourism's data, there were roughly 79,000 Russian tourists in Egypt when the Kremlin suspended all Russian air traffic to Egypt.
