One of the most iconic attractions in Moscow, the ferris wheel at the VDNKh All-Russia Exhibition Center, is scheduled for demolition on October 15.
The park’s administration finally secured a court order that terminates its contract with the “Russian Exhibition Attractions” company, which owns and operates the ride, along with several others at VDNKh. The contract was originally signed in 1999 and was supposed to run until 2045. For the past two years, VDNKh has been in court, trying to annul the agreement, following safety concerns about the rides at the park.
In March 2015, the “Cobra” roller coaster infamously broke down with riders suspended upside-down at the top of a vertical loop. Rescue workers eventually freed the passengers.
Four people are stuck on the “Cobra,” following a mechanical malfunction.

A judge ruled that the company must vacate the land where the rides are now, so the park can reclaim the space. VDNKh administrators are expected to find a new attractions company that will introduce new rides.
