Xzibit went on Russian TV and pimped ‘grandma’s ride’

The rapper Xzibit is in Russia this week and he’s made an appearance on Evening Urgant, a Russian late-night television program hosted by comedian Ivan Urgant. The American musician even reprised his role as host of the show Pimp My Ride, which ran on MTV from 2004 to 2007.

Xzibit was presented with a series of “means of transportation” and asked show off his salesmanship by pitching the objects’ strengths to the TV audience. He had to do with this a roller bag, a walker, and a wheelbarrow. The show then unveiled a “pimped-out” wheelbarrow equipped with headlights, a front-end camera, a spoiler, and more. “What the hell is this?” Xzibit asked, laughing, when confronted with the contraption. “Everything on this is very unnecessary, so you did a great job,” he said, giving Urgant a firm handshake.

At the beginning of the show, Xzibit arrived at the studio, driving what Urgant says is his grandmother’s Zhiguli—a plain car model popular during the late Soviet period. Xzibit had “pimped” the car, telling Urgant, “I couldn’t help myself. I pimped your grandma’s ride.”

Evening Urgant

Evening Urgant is a late-night talk show modeled on American TV programs like The Tonight Show and Late Show with David Letterman. Urgant has interviewed several Hollywood celebrities in the past, including actors Hugh Jackman, Sigourney Weaver, James Franco, and Mila Kunis (who speaks some Russian), as well as former pornstar Sasha Grey. The show uses simultaneous translation for these appearances, so the conversations with guests who don’t speak Russian can occur in real time.
