More than three tons of snow and ice fell suddenly from the rooftop of five-story building in Vladivostok on Saturday afternoon, March 7. No one was injured, though the first ice to crash to the ground narrowly missed two small children. The spectacle was captured on an outdoor security camera.
A witness told a local newspaper that the children’s parents pulled them back inside, after they were nearly crushed by a 40-kilogram (88-pound) chunk of ice. Heavier blocks of snow fell minutes later, some of which weighed as much as 100 kilograms (220 pounds), the witness guessed.
