Russian veterans of the war in Ukraine stand on Moscow’s Red Square during Victory Day celebrations. On May 9, Russia celebrated the anniversary of the Soviet victory in World War II with its traditional parade on Red Square. More than 9,000 people took part in the event, which featured 70 pieces of military equipment (albeit only one tank). Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed the crowd, drawing parallels between the Second World War and the Kremlin’s war in Ukraine and saying that the West “would like to forget the lessons of WWII.”
