As part of the city's Russia Day celebrations on June 12, Moscow is holding a historical reenactment festival called “Times and Eras.” The event covers centuries of Russian history, beginning with ancient Rus and covering Russia's exploits in the first and second World Wars. The festival is taking place in the very center of Moscow, on Tverskaya Street. On June 11, hours before a planned anti-corruption protest at Sakharov Prospekt, about two miles away, Alexey Navalny told his supporters to come to Tverskaya Street, instead, saying the authorities had forced his hand by pressuring local equipment vendors into denying his demonstration any stage equipment.
