Kyiv’s ‘Spiderweb’ drone strike prompts White House debate over whether to ‘abandon Ukraine’ — The Atlantic

Ukraine’s “Spiderweb” operation, which targeted Russian military airfields with drones, has sparked renewed debate within the Trump administration over whether the United States should “abandon Ukraine,” The Atlantic reported, citing sources in Trump’s administration.

According to those sources, the operation both impressed and angered U.S. President Donald Trump. While he reportedly admired the boldness of the Ukrainian strike, he was also displeased by the potential for escalation. Trump, the sources said, believes that instead of carrying out such high-profile attacks, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky should focus on peace negotiations with Russia in Istanbul.

Earlier, Axios also reported that Trump had described Ukraine’s drone attack on Russian air bases as “strong” and “badass,” citing U.S. government officials. But those same officials said Trump worried the strikes could provoke Russian President Vladimir Putin to retaliate, undermining Trump’s efforts to bring an end to the war.
