Apple pays fine of over $13 million to Russia's Federal Antimonopoly Service
Apple has paid an antimonopoly fine of nearly 1.2 billion rubles (about $13.6 million), reports Russia's Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS).
In July 2022, the FAS found Apple in violation of antimonopoly legislation for prohibiting app developers from informing customers about the option of paying outside the App Store and requiring Russian developers to use the company’s payment methods within their apps.
In January 2023, the FAS imposed a fine on Apple for abusing its dominant position in the apps market. Apple paid the fine on January 19, 2024, and the FAS press service said that the funds had already been deposited into the Russian budget. What method the American company was able to use to pay the fine is not specified.
