The writer and journalist Dmitry Bykov, who was hospitalized in Ufa, Russia, on April 16, will be transported to Moscow for further treatment. Dmitry Muratov, the former editor-in-chief of Novaya Gazeta, told Interfax about the upcoming move.

As of April 17, Bykov was in critical but stable condition. The writer was in a medically induced coma and required artificial ventilation. A group of doctors around Russia has been taking part in Bykov’s treatment, and that consortium worked with the writer’s relatives and Russia’s Health Ministry to make the decision to transport Bykov.

Alexey Venediktov, the editor-in-chief of Ekho Moskvy, said that Bykov may be flown to Moscow as early as the evening of April 18. The writer’s wife, Irina Lukyanova, said his condition remains very serious but stable.
