Russian children's rights commissioner opposes proposed penalties against parents who don't vaccinate their kids

Russian Children’s Rights Commissioner Anna Kuznetsova says she doesn’t support a new initiative by the Health Ministry that would deny sick leave pay to parents whose children become ill because they refused to inoculate them.

Kuznetsova warned that such a policy would only further harm children, encouraging parents to go to work with children sick at home, and increasing the odds that more parents would avoid contacting doctors when their children fall ill.

Russian Health Minister Veronika Skvortsova floated the controversial idea in a televised interview on September 17.
