A court in Novocheboksarsk has sentenced Alexey Mironov, a local volunteer for Alexey Navalny’s presidential campaign, to two years and three months in prison for publicly inciting extremism and hatred.

Mironov’s crime was reposting a photograph in 2016 with a caption reading, “I officially call for a violent overthrow of the authorities.” There was also a second case where he posted content aimed at Muslims.

Previously, Mironov was fined for breaking Russia’s law against disseminating Nazi symbols after he reposted an image comparing Vladimir Putin to Adolf Hitler.
