Dmitry Pestkov, Vladimir Putin's official spokesperson, commented on the presumptive Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton’s recent declaration that electing presumptive Republican candidate Donald Trump to the American presidency would be a motive for celebration in the Kremlin, which would welcome the prospect of a weaker United States.

“What motive could we have to celebrate?” Peskov told journalists, who asked him whether there was any truth to Clinton’s assertion, adding that he did not comprehend the question and would, therefore, be unable to respond to it.

In response to her words, Peskov did remind journalists of what he insinuated was Putin’s tendency towards isolationism, stating: “Russia has an advantageous difference from other countries: we never intervene in the internal affairs of other states.”

“Therefore, obviously, we believe that the superior candidate for the American presidency would be the one who is chosen by the majority of the people, despite the particularities of the electoral system of the United States,” he said.
