Moscow witnessed a spectacular and terrifying car chase last week, when men tried to rob a businessman of 1.5 million rubles ($25,000). After an altercation on the road, two men confronted another man, argued for a little over a minute, broke one of the windows on his car, and made off with a handbag containing the large sum of money. The thieves didn’t get very far, however, before the businessman was on their tail. At one point, another vehicle joined in the pursuit, apparently trying to help apprehend the criminals.
What ensued was an extremely dangerous car chase, like something out of a Hollywood film or video game. Miraculously, no one was seriously hurt, it seems.
At one point in the chase, after being rammed several times, the thieves ditched the bag with the money inside, but the businessman pursuing them failed to notice and continued his chase.
Eventually, after losing the criminals, the man was able to find a police officer and explain that he’d been robbed. Police soon apprehended the thieves, who denied having stolen anything. Bystanders reportedly found the handbag and turned it over to police. None of the money is missing.
It’s unknown if the businessman who tried so hard to chase down the men who robbed him (endangering dozens of pedestrians and motorists in the process) will face any criminal charges.
